CAV-023 Kirpatrick MacMillan Bridge

The Kirpatrick MacMillan Bridge over the river Nith was completed in 2006 and links the communities of Troqueer and Castledykes. The bridge celebrates the life of Kirkpatrick MacMillan, from the village of Kier, who invented the modern bicycle.

Before the bridge could be completed the town of Dumfries had to be decommissioned as a port because a protester moored his yacht in the town, as was his right, and the council could not complete the bridge and restrict his access to and from the port.
