CAV-006 The Old Bridge House Museum

Devorgilla Bridge, Dumfries, with the Old Bridge House Museum. The sandstone bridge dates from the early 1430’s and was funded by Margaret the Dutchess of Touraine the wife of the 4th Earl of Douglas and replaced a wooden bridge(s) which was funded by Devorgilla Bailiol. The OBHM is the oldest house still standing in Dumfries and dates back to 1660 when it was built by a cooper called James Birkmyre and is now a fascinating museum of town life.
